My name is Simon Rogers an I reside in the UK. After owning two previous Mopars over a twenty year period I was getting the itch to try something different. My current car was a gorgeous 68 QQ1 383 Superbee which i'd built to a very high standard .I realized that the car was so nice I was getting very protective over it and was not enjoying the driving experience as much as I ought.

So,what to buy? I took a trip to the Wellborn Museum in 2015 for the Winged Warriors reunion and while there I spent much time with Tim Wellborn listening to his love of the '71 Mopars. I was fortunate enough to drive a '71 4 speed Hemi GTX while I was at the museum and although a Hemi car was always going to be beyond my reach I thought the 4 speed might be fun.

When I returned to the UK I put my beloved 68 up for sale and started to look around for a 71. At this point I would have been happy with either a Roadrunner or a Charger. After several months I found a suitable buyer for the 68 .A nice bloke who would treat the car as I had done and preserve it for history.

I was quickly realizing that there were no decent 71's to be had in the UK so I would have to import.

I started to look on the Carsonline and Hemmings and after a few disappointments I came across a '71 Superbee at a dealers in MI.

The car looked good in the dealers video and I also found a youtube video that had been done by an independent auto appraisal company. The information all looked good and it was within my price range including the shipping. So, what is it?

A '71 Superbee in FE5 Rally Red. An original 383 4 speed car which was now fitted with a dual quad HP440,power discs and a 3.55 sure grip. Black bucket interior with a rally dash.It had been subject to some sort of in depth restoration and some point,it looked like it had been painted on a spit and the rear quarters had been replaced.

I bought the car in dec 2016 and was told by the shipper that it would travel from MI to TX where it would be put in a container with another car and some Harleys.

The car was delivered to me in early March one evening in the dark. I was really disappointed and upset, the car was absolutely filthy but worse had damage to both front fenders, the drivers side one was scraped and the passenger one had several dents along the length of it.

It also ran badly, but I did reason that it has probably been run for several short periods and was choked up.

In the morning I had a better look at the damage and found that every body panel had some sort of scrape or scratch on it with the exception of the trunk lid.Even the roof. I've put a claim in with the shipping agent but this is still ongoing and I've seen no money as yet.

The car is now registered so I can drive it and I must say i'm really enjoying it. The handling is much better than my 68 and the dual quad 440 feels pretty lively. As always when buying a new vehicle there is some sort of work to be done,i changed the wheels as soon as it got here and have added a go-wing and chin spoiler.

My plans for this year are to do some detailing and of course get the bodywork fixed.

Apart from that I would simply just like to drive the car and have fun, after all that's what it's all about isn't it?

Best Wishes

Simon Rogers
